Pine Marten and Badgers

16th to 23rd May 2020 – Only one place left!

Book now to avoid disappointmentPine Marten With Rain

I would like to invite you on this 8 day/7 night residential workshop in a remote location within the Scottish highlands approximately one hour’s drive west of Fort William, running from Saturday to Saturday 16th to 23rd May 2020. Max three available places.

Blue Tit In FlightSome of the wildlife to see and photograph are pine marten, badgers, red squirrels, red deer, foxes, voles, a variety of birds and moths. Golden eagle, white tailed eagle, buzzard and otter may be found in the area but these won’t be our highest priority although if we saw them, we’d make a detour. The itinerary depends upon the weather though each day’s location is usually chosen the previous evening. Most locations are easily accessible, only require only a short walk and will be adapted to suit the abilities of the group.

There may also be opportunities to photograph sunsets, seascapes, rock pools, riverscapes, lochs and the Glenfinnan viaduct. I’ll also make use of my portable bird hides, the moth trap and explain how to use high speed flash for freezing in-flight action and focus stacking to achieve greater depth-of-field when using wide apertures.

This workshop is for intermediate or advanced photographers who have a good range of photographic equipment including a highly spec’d DSLR camera body or two, wide angle, macro and long telephoto lenses. Your ideal kit might also include a tripod, flash guns, wireless remote control, weatherproof camera cover, camouflage clothing, memory cards and batteries.

Red Squirrel On LogThe accommodation is in a remote cottage in the Scottish highlands between Fort William and Mallaig. It comprises two good sized twin bedrooms, one bathroom (with shower), conservatory, kitchen, utility room, living room and parking for four cars. Due to the cottage layout, there’s no option to upgrade to a single room or have an en-suite bathroom. Breakfasts and some lunches are included in the workshop. All meals are on a ‘cook them yourself’ basis though we may eat out as and when the situation arises. Please ensure that any special dietary needs or allergies are indicated at the time of booking.

There won’t be any ‘tripod holes’ on this workshop and the wildlife won’t be waiting for us. I believe we have to work hard to get the very best photographs and it’s far better to earn the right to be a wildlife photographer rather than to just take photographs of wild animals. There are no guarantees that the wildlife will turn up, though it usually does.

The cost of this exciting workshop is just £995 with a non-refundable deposit of £250. All prices are per person. Balance due two months before the workshop.
